Particle "wa"
Particle "wa", point out the main topic of a sentence and
when it is used at the beginning of a sentence, it indicates
the theme of the sentence. So its function is similar to
"As for / to", "Concerning" or "Regarding" in English.
Saitoo-san wa kaishain desu Miss. Saitoo is an office worker.
Saitoo-san wa Nihonjin desu Miss. Saitoo is a Japanese.
Tom-san wa Amerikajin desu Mr. Tom is an American.

tomodachi desu
Miss. Saitoo is Mr Tom's friend.
